If you could take one car on any track, what would it be? For me it would be the Audi r10 tdi on road Atlanta. One of the greatest lmp1 cars (it never lost lemans in all the years it competed) on one of the greatest tracks imho. No restrictions on cars. It can be a yugo or a Ferrari f1 car for all I care.

I think either a Cobra to Spa Francochamps, or a Porsche 917K to Circuit de la Sarte. Yes, I like a car to be a handful, I think that is more fun than a perfectly handling modern racing machine.

Ferrari F40
The track? I’m gonna go with Laguna Seca

Well, come to think of it, a CSL on the Nürburgring Nordschleife would also be a contender.

I know it’s not the most creative, but a 997 GT3 RS 3.8 at Spa sounds like heaven.

I can see it now, flat-six wailing through eau rouge and raidillon

I drove Spa in a 75hp Renault Twingo, and we couldn’t go over 80 kmh, and even in that way the place is heaven anyway. So yes, taking a GT3 around it will definitely be heaven.

I like your R10 choice. A few years ago, that would’ve been my choice, too.
So, I’m going to go a completely different direction (but still LMP1), and take a TS040 (last of the naturally aspirated LMP1s) to Spa. At least I think it’ll be the TS040, whatever it is, it’ll be Spa.

Lime Rock, Viper.

I’m going to say a Cobra, or Viper around the ‘ring (I’d be so dead, but it would be glorious). Or I’ll just settle for a Raptor around Laguna Seca.
![]() 09/24/2017 at 20:49 |

That would also be glorious

Paris-Dakar or something like that.
or
leguna seca.

You’ve got a solid choice there, Road Atlanta and early Lmp1 cars are awesome!
It’s a good question, if there’s no limit on tracks, I might just take a UGR Twin Turbo Gallardo (manual obviously) on Avus.
If the track has to exist today (for whatever hypothetical purpose), I’d take a Mazda MXR-01 for a spin on Tsukuba. I’d also consider the Norisring to be up there too:

Maybe some slide-y car like a GT86 or M3 or something in the rain at the Nurburgring so I can pretend I can slide around the whole track.

I know all too well that I couldn’t ring enough out of an LMP or F1 car to be anything but frustrated with myself.
Therefore the best answer is to choose something with a legitimate racing past and just enough craziness to be both fun and terrifying.
Enter the Crosley hotshot. It weighs 1000lbs in road trim. To fit it for racing the passenger seat, bumpers, windshield, spare tire and trunk rackk among other things were removed. Find one with the supercharger that was built for them that with a different cam bumped power all the way to 50!
Yeah, not much but this tiny thing would be terrifying enough at 90mph that I don’t think you’d want more.
The track; I vote Sebring where a Hotshot actually won a 6 hour race in 1950 thanks to balance of performance rules. Granted, the current track shares nothing but location in common with the course from 1950.

with the raptor, i’m guessing you mean around leguna seca as in off the track in the dirt the whole time.

I’ve seen the norisring with dtm cars. That track looks hairy in the rain

Shelby Daytona Coupe. Chez la Nurburgring.

Sure Road Atlanta. But perhaps Ryan Tuerck’s 86.

I saw the R10 at RA. Good times there.
956 at Le Mans. No chicane. A specialized tool for its intended track.

Death would be quite swift as I don’t imagine I could keep that car anywhere near on track at any sort of speed.

I never said I would be driving it fast. Can you imagine, 80s 911 weight distribution, 500 hp and turbo lag?

GT40 at Le Mans.

Hmmm. Definitely gonna say Mazda 787B on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course, mostly because I know that course like the back of my hand.

Mazda 787B around La Sarthe would be fun.

A MK2/3 Ford GT40 at Imola. Because f*ck Ferrari.

West LMX at Road America, because basically the West WX10 DSR that Level 5 developed to race in the Run-Offs at the specific track it was developed for.

the track has to be Laguna Seca - as for the car, I’d be really tempted to choose an original GT350r...

TOO SOON.
Although that’s the TS050 that did that, not the TS040. And, I could just say the 2015-spec TS040, which was perfectly reliable... it just hadn’t gotten faster (and in fact qualified slower, probably because it lost the cheaty 2014 rear bodywork, although it completed more laps than 2014), where the Audi and Porsches did.

2016 Ford Fiesta WRC.
Then I call a GT3 team and have them refit the suspension to GT3-spec, equip GT3 tires, and tune to 550hp, just add some more wang and diffuser.
Time to shock some actual Blancpain GT competitors...
Actually no lol. If I was gonna pick any one thing to drive, it’s the 2014 R35 GT500.
This is tough because I wanted the F2004, too, and even the generation of Super GT R35 before it (and the OG NSX Suepr GT), but really, I won’t get enough of Calsonic Blue. Besides, I can have the NSX later.
Where would I race it?
And additional challenge: I’m racing the Ford GTE-Pro car. Full tank, 20 laps.

Gtr would win by a country mile

Even if the Ford starts a lap ahead?
Also, I guess I’d like to try any DRS-equipped F1 car up Road Atlanta. Popping DRS right as you get up the hill on the home straight, then again, this time at the sweep, and again at Kettle Bottoms...
I’m not saying turn RA into a Grade 1 track, but it could use a bit of a top-up. No need to do up the runoff or change the layout—it’s square enough so it’s Tilke enough—just give the facilities a bit more lovin’ and the asphalt some new sheen and there you go.
